I can't see James after 1938 on the Electoral Roll.   Lillian has classed herself as Married .... but some widows put themselves down as still being married. 

1928, 1935  and 1938 E/R 's for Bay of Islands, has James and Lillian living at Kawakawa, James being a Blacksmith.  There are also a few other Marshall's in the Kawakawa area, possibly James's family/relations.

also there is an Lillian Madeline Chapman a Spinster living in Auckland Central.

In 1946 and 1949 there is a Lillian Madeline Chapman living in 8 Chapman St, Arch Hill, Auckland .... status Married, and also in 1949 Lillian Madeline Chapman living at 1 Carlton Gore Road, Parnell, Auckland, status Married.

Hi im living in invercargill but i will definatly give the funeral home a ring tomorrow. Iv googled it and its owned by a new company but hopefully they have still kept records. Thank you heaps! Thank you KHP, it looking like somethings happened to james and shes remarried another james! I thought that only happened in gore! I think the parnell lilian is her. Whether or not she changed some of the kids names to chapman, im not sure. There was a lady on this site that was lilians granddaughter but she hasnt reposted. We're so close! Even the meaning of life has a easier answer. I cant thank you all enough for taking the time to help us. Wot a awesome family to be a part of
