Janet Laidlaw Bell
« on: Tuesday 06 December 11 21:17 GMT (UK) »
Hello, I am hoping that someone may be able to help me.  I’m looking for information about possible children of my great grandaunt Janet Laidlaw.  She was born on the 18 December 1885 in Galashiels, Selkirkshire Scotland to William Laidlaw and Mary Alexander, the youngest of six children.  On the 31 December 1910, she married Richard Bell (parents Robert Pearson Bell and Grace Sanderson).  Janet was 25 and Richard was 35 at that time.  In the 1911 census they were listed as living in Jedburgh but I believe that they relocated to Northumberland as Richard was English and I think they settled in Hexham, Northumberland.  I am looking for births, marriages and deaths of children they may have had.  As Bell is a common name,  I’m not sure what to do as I’m used to looking for my information in Scotland’s People;  I haven’t ventured into England until now and I do realise that certificates are not accessible online.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi - haven't been on for a while and have just seen your message.  From the list of names posted by "keyboard86", three of them were relatives of mine.  They are William Dec 1911; Winifred M Sept 1912 and Frances Sept 1914.  Their mother was Margaretta Lizzie Laidlaw and father Joseph Bell.
Hope you haven't sent for their certificates yet and I have managed to save you some money.

Hi andiu

I haven't sent off for any certificates.  I guess that that they aren't connected to me.  My relative, my great grandaunt is Janet Laidlaw Bell.  She married Richard Bell in December of 1910 in Galashiels Scotland and then moved to Jedburgh afterwards.  Richard was English, from Northumberland I believe.  I'm now puzzled as I'm not sure what happened to her.  I was not 100% convinced that they were relatives since families tended to repeat names of mothers or fathers for their children and there is absolutely no evidence of that with that list with the exception of William.  I'm just not sure what to do now!
Thanks for your response.
