Can anyone tell me when James Lang and his wife Janet (and 3 children) sailed to Canada. He was originally from Sprouston near Kelso.
We think it was between 1886-1888 but would love to know when he actually went there
Best
Ken

have you tried 'find you past' and ancestry web sites - passengers lists - you can search by name.

Hello norma many thanks for that much appreciated, but James wife was called Janet and they sailed with their 3 children. Apparently just before the went to Canada they were living at a place callede Hebron (I think near Newcastle although they were originally from Sprouston, near Kelso
many thanks Ken

Hi Ken,
I think I know this family. James Lang had a mother who was a Rutherford.
I am researching the Rutherford family.
Poor Janet did not live very long in her new country. There are no other records in that time span. They may have got their name wrong. An English person hearing a Scottish accent could have put them down with a very different name.

Hi Ken
What were the names of the children and when were they born, passenger lists information is often scant in detail but it is sometimes easier to find children as parents are often referred to as Mr or Mrs and no actual name.

Hi Ken
Janet LANG 25 and children Agnes, Helen and Janet arrived in Quebec on the SS Montreal 23rd June 1887 having left Liverpool 10th June 1887. The surname has been transcribed on Ancestry as LANY.
James probably went to Canada earlier, this is not uncommon
