Elizabeth, Francis and Mary Acerson

Two of my 5x great grandparents are William and Elizabeth Maynard (nee Acerson) - William was born in Hitchin, Hertfordshire in 1772 and Elizabeth was born in Stotfold, Bedfordshire in 1774. I've found a record of their 1796 marriage in Shoreditch that mentions a Francis and Mary Acerson, who I believe may be Elizabeth's parents, but I can't find any information on them. The following is a picture of the certificate itself.


And it says -

"William Maynard of this parish (bachelor) and Elisabeth Acerson of this parish (spinster) were married in this church by banns this 27th day of March in the Year One Thousand Seven Hundred and Ninety Six by me Joseph Rose minister".

William signed his own name, whilst Elisabeth made a mark as she was illiterate. Francis signed his name, whilst Mary made a mark.

Can anyone help me find any information on either of these three Acersons?

Hi

The only person who could supposedly spell their surname  (when writing) was Frances who was the only one to sign without making a mark. The parish clerk was going by the pronouciation of the surname given him and Francis' spelling or attempt at spelling the surname.

There doesn't seem to be any evidence for a surname 'Acerson' so you have to look for possibilities of other spellings.

This is a possibility but may still be a variation on the actual spelling.

There doesn't seem to be a connection with the London area just that the couple married there, perhaps because one or other was working there at the time.

Thanks for the reply and the information. The possibility you post looks very likely, especially as Francis seems to be a common name in the Maynard family - it was, amongst other uses, the first name of my great great grandfather, one of the middle names of my great grandfather and the middle name of one of my brothers.
