Richard TUCKER burial Tilshead
« on: Saturday 03 December 11 10:14 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for the burial of Richard Tucker, schoolmaster, who died on 17 Oct 1845 at the home of his son in Market Lavington.  He is supposed to be buried in Tilshead, any information gratefully received.
Many thanks
Twywell.

A Richard Tucker was indeed buried at Tilshead on 23 Oct 1845:  age 77 abode Lavington.  No further info in parish register (it doesn't say schoolmaster for instance).  If he's "your" Richard I imagine that he was retired, and he must have been a bit "ripe" if he died 6 days beforehand, but of course his family would have had to get his body from where he died to where he was buried and that would explain the delay.

Best wishes and happy xmas
Jane  :)

Many thanks, that looks like the right one.  On the death certificate his age is 78, and his occupation is Yeoman.  There is information about the church pews in Tilshead on the internet which suggests that he was buried in a big chest tomb but I was unable to find it on visiting the churchyard, however, there was more than one in a bad state of repair.
Thanks for taking the trouble to reply, most helpful.
Merry Christmas!
Twywell.
