Newbie here but as Preston is my home town and I had never heard of Brynings Yard, so I couldn't help being interested.

Brynings yard = Bamber’s Yard.

Anyone from the area will know of Bamber Bridge which is on the outskirts of Preston and the main street which runs through Bamber Bridge is called Gregson Lane.

I'm guessing that the surnames of Bamber and Gregson were prominent families of Preston.

There is a news story on the history of Bamber’s Yard at www.blogpreston.co.uk but I haven't figured out how to attach yet.
