There is a Bryning caravan park, Bryning Lane Warton, Preston.

www.bryningcaravanpark.co.uk.

Perhaps somebody there might know the history of the area.

Heather :)

Thanks  Heather,
sadly back in 1864 Warton wasn't classed as preston, I have found another death in Brynings yard also in the 1800s so there must have been dwellings there.

Hi,
was just going to point you to another thread on here re Bryning's Yard but it is yours  :)

As Bryning is a surname, perhaps it was locally called after someone who perhaps had a  business with a yard nearby  :-\

There's this on Lancs OPC

Baptism of Richard Gregson
Parents:  Henry Gregson (overlooker) and Betsey
Address: Brynings Yard
23 Jun 1849 at St John, Preston, Lancashire

I've tried to find the family there in 1851 census but can't see them.  If they lived near where the baptism was it would put it in the Parish of St John

http://www.lan-opc.org.uk/Preston/Preston/stjohn/index.html

St John's Church is in Church Street Preston

That's a good find  :)

There's a Henry and Elizabeth Gregson living Bamber's Yard in 1851

No Brynings Yard in 1851 street index

Yes - just seen that one

I think it may be them as he is an overlooker.

There is a death for a Richard Gregson dec 1849 and then a new baby Margaret in the 1851 census - so perhaps baby Richard died and this is them.

Unfortunately they appear to have moved house!!! Although they probably didn't move far.

Odd there is no Brynings Yard listed though - as it obviously existed in 1849 - and again in 1864

Finally got there  ;)
The Bryning's Yard has got to be Bamber's Yard  as I have come across a 1845 death notice with the Gregson's being there so maybe some called it one or the other.
