Any Help
« on: Thursday 01 December 11 22:48 GMT (UK) »
I was wondering if any one could help shed lightplease

I have found marriage on irish genealogy on my 3rd grt grand parents wedding which has given me their parents names.

My grt grt grt father was William Fitzgibbon b. 1860 ish in Waterford he married Helena(ellen) Pendred on 29 june 1877 at St Marys pro Catherdal, Dublin

He was living at Ships st barrack. My question is would this mean he was a solider? I cant seem to find any other records for him!!!

The record also shows his parents as Robert and Sarae Fitzgibbon and hers George and Catherine Pendred.

Any help would be greatly appreciated many thanks

Thanks Sharon

Is this the record you found:
http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/details/a201fb0067942

Do you know how many children they had, and what dates? One of the birth certs would  give his occupation. ( They are relatively cheap - about 6 Euro - to order on line)

He possibly was a soldier, so if you found the Civil Registration for the marriage, that would give more detail.

I am having difficulty finding it on family search, though.

There is another child born to  a George and Catherine Pendred:(Giving George as a Chandler in 8 Stephen's St.)

here are the likely references to teh marriage on the BMD INdex :

  Name: Ellen Pendred
  Registration district: Dublin North
  Event type:Marriage
  Quarter and year: 1877
  Volume : 12 / Page: 515

  Name: William Fitzgibbon
  [same index references as Ellen]

as PM said, a civil cert should show more details such as occupation for William, Robert & George, and possibly Ellen.

The marriage record on the Irish Genealogy website is from St. Mary's Marlborough street - an RC church. Occupations are not usually recorded in RC records, but as I mentioned above should be included on a civil record.

If your William was born c1860 then there will be no birth cert for him, since  registration of births did not start until 1864.
