welsh general fought/died at the Alamo

any info on major general Edward Edwards,of the east india company, who fought and died at the battle of the Alamo 1836. the east india company supplied santa anna with arms and provisions !!! in my local church there is a memorial plaque to this person who's family were local farmer/ land owners.

“(ii) Colonel Edward Edwards (1779-1836) who fought in the first (1803-04) and second (1817-18) Maratha Wars in India. Colonel Edwards held the Star of India award so that he must have served as a Civil Governor when in the employ of the British East India Company. He died in San Antonio, Texas, and according to Letters of Administration, his estate amounted to ………”

There’s even been a book written about the fellow, “The career and mysterious death of Colonel Edward Edwards, 1779-?1836”. If you Google the author’s name you’ll find him very easily. http://www.rootschat.com/links/0igp/

thank you ...askan,    a few years ago maybe 20 !! radio wales had a phone in regards this topic that went on for days ,alas i did not take it all in . local historians have quoted that he was a soldier of fortune . this weekend if i see the radio presenter that was involved i will ask him. i cannot imagine a high ranking officer being among the assault troops . maybe he succumb to a fatal disease !!...............a welsh man killing davy crocket !!!  heaven forbid.
