[COMPLETED] SANSOM (SANSOME etc) of Uplyme

Hi,

I'm trying to establish the parents of a James Sansom who was born in Uplyme about 1822. He appears in the 1841 Census working at the Canniton (Cannington Lane) farm of a William Davey but never appears alongside his parents and disappears completely after 1851.

I'm keen to discover who his parents were, his mother's maiden name and when he was baptised if anyone has access to such information?

1841 Census as you stated
Can`t find him in 1851 unless he worked out of Devon

In 1861 he married Elizabeth Lucas at Taunton Oct/Nov/DecQtr  will recheck Census.

 On 1871  James and Elizabeth are living  at Ru shton Somerset, He`s a gardener of 3 acres, she`s a housewife and they have 3 children

On 1881  Census   Still living in Rushton

Hi Dragongirl,

I don't think this is the same James Sansom, unfortunately. The one who is at Uplyme in 1841 Census is still working at William Davey's farm in the 1851 Census and gave his birthplace as Uplyme, not Honiton or Cullompton - both of which are more than 10 miles away. 

I know there are several Sansom families with children detailed in the 1826 Uplyme 'census' by Rector Henry Tuck and I assume he belongs to one of those, so he ought to be in the Uplyme parish baptism register if it survives - but I don't have access!

you`ve  got it sorted My great great grandmother was born in Uplyme and last year I actually managed to get to see the Church and village she married a Jewell so this year went to stay in Devon and visited Broadwoodwidger where my other
gtgt grandparents were born

Hey, I was doing random google searches for Sansom in Uplyme and your question on here about James popped up. He is my ggg-grandfather. My dad is a direct male descendent. I would love to know your connection. Do you use Ancestry? My profile on there is Lin Miller. My public tree doesn't have a lot on it, I need to transfer more people that I have verified over from my private one. I have got as far as Hezekiah Sansom born in Uplyme in 1694 who I'm pretty sure is James Sansom's gg-grandfather. I would love to hear from you. Cheers. Lin
