Hi,

Familysearch has the death of Albert Alexander Long, in 1930 (he was an infant).  His parents were Albert John Long and Eleanor Johnston.  Little Albert died in Toronto.

Scarborough is the Eastern section of Toronto.  Could this be your family?  If so, Eleanor's last name was Johnston.

I am assuming that your Grandma is Eleanor Catherine Barnes. Can you give us her approximate date of birth so we have a time frame to work with. Also is she the oldest or youngest in the family.

Do you know anything at all about Albert and Eleanor Long such as approximate years of birth and where born. You can give the approximate years of birth for the 6 children born to Albert and Eleanor. Also the death dates for Albert and Eleanor could also be helpful.

Hello

Eleanor Catherine Barnes (Long) is my grandma and she was born Nov 17, 1930 and died May 21, 1999

As for her sibilings I do not know any birthdates or even if my grandma is eldest youngest or middle child as I got the names from my grandmas obituary from the pages from the past of the Toronto star. I am not sure of Albert long nor Eleanor long's birthdate nor death date but I am looking into the toronto star.

I do know that my dads parents said that we are Irish but they never said who in the family was the Irish relative nor the Scottish relative either so they could possibly the ones you have found.

Thanks for the help so far. Hoping to find out more information to help us out.

Hi again,

OK, so it looks like any possible lead might be worth following up...

Have a look at the 1911 census.  If your Albert was born in Ontario, he should be on this.  You can search and view this census for free at the automatedgenealogy site.  There are quite a few Albert Longs living in Ontario then, but if you narrow down the ages - to someone who would be having children in the 1920s and 1930s, that makes the pool a bit smaller.  There are 3 in Toronto who might fit.   They all live in Toronto East.  One is 15, one is 9 and one is 14.  The 15 and 9 year old were born in England, while the 14 year old was born in Ontario.  This shows all of the Alberts in Ontario.  You can click on the ones you want to see, and you will go to the census transcription page.  From there, you can see the actual census images by selecting Split View at the top of the page:

http://www.rootschat.com/links/0hv4/

Here is the split view page for the Albert born in Ontario.  His background is listed as Irish - so this ties in with some of the other information on this thread.

http://automatedgenealogy.com/census11/SplitView.jsp?id=80454

This 14 year old Albert is living with his brother John (age 28) and John's wife Annie (also age 28).  John and Annie have a daughter Cecilia.  There is a brother in law and aunt (in relation to John) with the last name Calfield.   John was born in Ontario too.

Something to consider :)

RK

PS - I have free access to the Toronto Star.  I will see what I can find too.  So far, I haven't been able to find any deaths for Albert or Eleanor Long.   :'(

Hello RunKitty

Thanks for the help. I will look into it the alberts that you have suggested.

I have no idea when Albert would have been born nor where as well as when he died.

I do know that his wife Eleanor Long was still alive when I was little as we would get christmas cards from her still. Never met her though except when she as at my moms baby shower for me but that is it.  And she was around when my brothers where born so that narrows our search abit. So she probably died after 1987 but not sure though. I will do some more info seeking from my Uncle and my dad.

Hi,

It looks as if one of your Grandmother's siblings has died.  Robert Long of Napanee died on July 17 2008.  His family places in Memoriam notices in the Napanee Guide each year on the anniversary of his death.  I won't post the direct link to the Memorials, because Robert's wife is named - and she is still living.  You can find it through the Napanee Guide site.  Just select Obituaries from the main page and do an Advanced Search of the In Memoriams.  His are there.

http://www.napaneeguide.com/

Unfortunately, the Obituary isn't in this site.  Perhaps they don't go back to 2008?   The Napanee library may be able to help.

If you can get more names, you have more people to ask :) :)

Also, I did a Canada 411 search for some of the other siblings named in your Grandmother's obituary. There are some matches - first initial, last name, and location - for the siblings' names.   Check Scarborough and Pickering :) :)

Perhaps some more people to ask???

Hi there. Beg to differ, but you will find the obit at the Napanee Guide website posted above under obituaries.

Put Long in the name slot and be sure to actually type Napanee into the place slot. You will find him as 'Bob'. There is a lot of potential contact info in the obit.
