BLOW & GOFF families of County Monaghan
« on: Tuesday 10 May 05 00:05 BST (UK) »
My ancestor John BLOW (1796) came from county Fermanagh, but his father, Thomas BLOW was from county Monaghan. THomas' mother's name was Jane GOFF.

John moved to Australia in 1839 & eventually settled at Foxground, NSW.

I would be very interested in hearing from others researching these families.

Thank you in anticipation.  :)

Hi, John BLOW is my 4th Great Grandfather. His son, William BLOW married Catherine MILLER in Dapto NSW - they are my 3rd Great Grandparents.

I am currently reading the "Blow by Blow" book that was put together in the 1980's, as I've only just found out about it. My name is in the book, but I was only a child in the 1980's. I am just putting together now the members of this family branch.  Thomas BLOW & Jane GOFF are therefore my 5th Great Grandparents.

On the familysearch.org website, There is a Thomas BLOW marrying an Ann GOFF at County Monaghan, Ireland in 1795. There are 2 entries for John BLOW being born in 1796 at County Monaghan - one entry has his mother as Ann GOFF and the other entry has his mother as Jane GOFF.

I haven't done any other searches on the Irish link as yet, as I am concentrating on putting all my Australian ancestors together (which are alot!).

Hello True Cruiser,

What denomination were the Blow and Goff families? Were they  members of the Catholic faith, the Established Church (Anglicans or Church of Ireland), Methodists or Presbyterians?

You'll have to rely on Church records as civil registration in Ireland was not introduced until 1864. Non Catholic marriages were registered from 1845 onwards. When registration for BDMS started in 1864 some people didn't bother with the registration for a few years after that date. Keep your fingers crossed that church records still exist.

Hi Christopher,

thank you for the information. I believe they may have been of the Established Church, but will have to look further into this.

Best of luck with your research :)

Cheers,
Donna.
