Hi James,My husbands maternal grandmother was Estella Constance van Lier(nee Schiff) born to Caroline Van Mentz and Abraham Schiff of Upper Clapton London in 1895. Abrahams parents were Saling and Katherine. Salings parents were Abraham and Ernestina. I have found the Schiff family lineage documented in Jewish Families of Fraakfurt am Main. Research family names Cahn- 1B,2a and Schiff - Abraham Moses Schiff  b1786 d 1850 ,son of Moses Hertz  b1751 d1815,son of Herz Joseph Schiff d1779,son of Joseph Moses Schiff, son of Moses, son of Meier, son of Uri Phoebus Cahn zum Wedel zum Schiff. Other branches of the family can be traced from this info and prominent Schiffs biographies are recorded in Jewish Encyclopedia. My husband has fond memories of is loving and gentle grandmother, Estella. I think Saling had two older brothers-Leopoldo and Louis and three younger sisters- Emma, Betsy and Amelia.Abraham had at least one cousin with the same name . He was the third of 10 children. Abraham and Caroline had 7 children . Estella was their 5th. Their eldest son Frederick died in France in 1918 and we visited his grave in Manancourt British Cemetry last year. I have more info ,mainly obtained from census records etc and I am interested in obtaining more verified   data .Hope this helps, Jenny L (Australia)

I have seen messages regarding SALING SCHIFF.  I am also a descendant of this gentleman.  My daughter has done a lot about our family tree and we may have information you will find interesting.  We have been to the Archives at Kew and seen Saling's naturalisation papers.  we have also seen the information regarding his burial site, his wife is also buried there.

Hi Dave,      My husband David is another one of Salings great-great grandsons. David's mother was Caroline Ley(nee Van Leer) ,daughter of Estella Van Leer , daughter of Abraham and Caroline Schiff. Abraham Schiff was the son of Saling and Katherine Schiff. Do you have any information about the birth place or parents of Salings parents:- Abraham and Ernestina who migrated from Prussia?  We are very interested in finding out more about this interesting family. Regards , Jennifer  Ley
