Hello Ronnie,

That sounds intriguing!  Can you give me the source for Robert being a "Miller" please!

My 3rd cousin, Peter, and i have had paid research done as well as our own persistent efforts to establish the origins of our known gggrandfather, Robert Green.

Robert Green gave his father as a Robert Green who was a miller on his 1844 marriage registration.  We would dearly love to link the two Roberts together!

On the 1851 census we have our gggrandfather Robert aged c51, giving his birth year as 1801, and in Ardleigh.  As yet we have no record for this birth but we do have one for a birth in 1785!!??
Hi Julie
I have had another look at the marriage certificate Robert Green stated that his father was a miller and that he himself was a farmer. Sarahs father Wlliam was also a farmer
I am hopefully going into the library tomorrow I will look up Ardleigh and Great horkesly records to see what I can find  Incidentally Elizabeth Langland was actually Elizabeth Lillley She married James Langlands in 1804 in weeley....Any help :)
Ronnie
Are you able to clarify anything further please?!

Kind regards
Julie

Hello Suffolk Sue and Ronnie,
Thanks for your replies.
We have had professional Essex research done for locating Robert Green father & son.  No luck.  I certainly don't know England well but was told that registration districts could overlap county borders.  Apparently Suffolk & Essex did and have wondered if Robert jr's father actually came from the area in Suffolk which incorporated Ardleigh in Essex.  I think this is fanciful though.  Our researcher was very thorough and experienced and she could not find links or records, albeit scores of Robert Greens and Elizabeths and Sarahs!!
The 1783 or 5 birth for Robert Green is in the SEAX records for Ardleigh Baptisms.  i saw it online.  Robert's parents though were ROGER Green and Lucy Garnham.  So it could well be a link for us but the father's name is a problem for me.  Surely our Robert knew his father's name as he gave on his 1844 mg record.
Sadly i do feel it's a closed door for us.  I've tried to find mills information and did find a little with some names given but nothing in great detail and no mention of a Robert Green.
Thanks for all,
Kind regards
Julie

Hi - I've just checked the 1844 marriage of Robert Green and Sarah Watkins and note that the register shows his father as Robert Green, miller, and not Robert Wilkinson Green. The father is also not shown as deceased, whereas Robert Wilkinson Green was dead by 1827, when his wife Jemima made her will (proved at the Prerogative Court of Canterbury), in which she describes herself as a widow. This is all available via Ancestry. Robert Wilkinson Green and Jemima (formerly Everitt/Everett, nee Ladbroke/Ladbrook) are my 5x great-grandparents on that line. Regards, Shane
