From what I can see, it looks like the first letter is 'B' and the last few are 'stown'. It could be that they have added on the locality of the place he came from, for some reason, maybe to differentiate him from somebody else of the same name. There is a place called 'Barriestown' not far from Cork, in County Wexford, which is the only one I have been able to find on a quick search.
It might help if you did another scan of this so that you can read it without having to twist sideways.
