John ASHMAN (died 1812) from Wells, Somerset
« on: Monday 21 November 11 10:06 GMT (UK) »
Hello,

I am researching John Ashman. I have been told he married an Elizabeth Harris c1795 and Jane Wall c1800 in Wells, Somerset. The Mormon IGI Database Search  show that a John and Jane Ashman were the parents of four children; Mary (1802), Sarah (1806), Joseph (1809)and George (1812) who were all baptised at St. Cuthberts church in Wells. I am assuming that Jane Ashman's maiden name was Wall. The Mormon IGI Database Search also shows a John Ashman being buried at St. Cuthbert's in 1812.

I have looked for information about John's date of birth and his two marriages but to no avail. I would be grateful if anyone can provide any additional details about John and his two wives?

Hi Kris,

A big thank you. This information is really appreciated.

As a newcomer to family history research and RootsChat, please tell me what the abbreviation OTP means. :)

Hi Kris,

Have just noted the recent information you supplied re John Ashman.   I presume that the burial records for John Ashman and Elizabeth are from parish records.  Do you have the batch or reference as I would like to view the records at my local LDS centre.

Cheers

Hi pommykiwi,

No sorry I do have have the LDS reference details. I am sure you will be able to order in the records by parish and years. You will likely find a large amount of the parish records will be on the film. Those burial records will likely be a batch from around 1754-1812.

They may just state wife of....... Child of........

I wondered if Anne may have been the first wife and at least one of the George's was a son. (born 1808 died 1810) Possibly the earlier one was also a son.
Good Luck

Kris  :)

https://www.familysearch.org/

Lists George's father as John. They also have John's death as 1812 rather than 1811.  ::) Rough Hills also mentioned 1812.  Since I have not viewed the original, and both are transcribed entries, I cannot say which entry is correct.

All the best with the originals.

Cheers Kris  :)

Thanks Kris,

I have John Ashman 1812 burial but with so many Ashman's (and particularly John's) in this area of Somerset am not sure that this 1812 burial is 'my' John.  Am hoping that a search of the parish records will help.

Cheers
