Owen Francis McDaid (McDevitt) 1883

Help please

Can anyone find please Owen Francis McDevitt born apparently on 3 Nov 1883 ( info from USA) in Buncrana on the 1901 census . I cannot find him ?  His father is possibly John William Mcdaid.

He went to USA in 1907 and died in 1939 in Butte Montana.

Thank you so much, that is him and his father.  Interestingly I have his grandfather John Thomas Mcdaid being Born 13 Sept 1828 in Buncrana - would anyone know how this exact date can be verified as prior to civil registration. Also have his grandadfather as Neil Joseph born 1809 and his great great gradnfather as John born 1780 married to an unknown McLaughlin.  Any idea how this info can have been sourced ?  Thank you for your help.

The normal way of ascertaining age pre civil registration is through baptism records. However from looking at the PRONI website it doesn't look as though the RC records for that parish go back that far. Gravestones or family bibles might be the only likely alternative sources.

Going back to the Census record, a note of caution, I see your Owen emigrated in 1907, looks like the Owen from the above record was still living with father in 1911:

You are right , unfortunately that is not my McDaid as indeed Owen (John) was in USA by this time and his wife was a Mary Ellen.  I have copied below all the family tree as best I can.  I think the first step is finding JOhn (Owen) with maybe his sister Ellen and brother Michael. 
The family were obviously in Canada at some time ??
Can anyone find Owen born in 1883 in Buncrana please.  I just need to get one evidenced source in Ireland to start.

Hi, ok hopefully this is the correct family, some inconsistencies with your information but I think I maybe on right track

John (William) McDaid married Mary McKinney 1873 Civil Parish of Buncranna, John's fathers name was William on marriage record.

I have birth records for following children of the couple:

Mary 1875
Ellen 1877
Sarah 1879
Elizabeth 1880
Owen 1883
William 1885

all registered at Buncranna CP

Also 5 of the above names in Buncranna RC Church records as well as Patrick McDaid 1882


John McDaid married Catherine Coyle in same Parish in 1887, Johns fathers name again recorded as William

Looks like there are many errors on the tree that I have been sent which is as I thought.  But with all the info you have given me looks like it can be sorted out.

Are the above the children then of John William McDaids first marriage to Mary McKinney ??

On the 1901 census you've attached  , there are many other children shown including ROSE  - ellen, cassie , annie etc - are these children of his first marriage to Mary McKinney or of the 2nd marriage to Catherine Coyle .  Why is John shown as William on 1901 census ? .

You mention you have copies of records of the 5 children and Patrick . Would it be possible to be emailed copies please . I'll PM you.

Owen did not leave home until 1907.

Catherine Coyle is shown as dead in Canada in 1913 ? I am assuming William and her must have emmigrated.  I have found Owen and brother Patrick in Montana on 1930 census.

further to above just found William ( alias John) and catherine on 1911 census. Cannot see that they emmigated to canada where they have her ded in 1913. Must be another error on the McDevitt tree.
