Well, I found the following on familysearch.org:

groom's name:   William Jones
groom's birth date:   1880
groom's age:   32
bride's name:   Rhoda Tate
bride's birth date:   1887
bride's age:   25
marriage date:   21 Aug 1912
marriage place:   St. Alban, Liverpool, Lancashire, England
groom's father's name:   Edward Jones
bride's father's name:   George Edward Tate
groom's marital status:   Single
bride's marital status:   Single
indexing project (batch) number:   M00783-7
system origin:   England-EASy

...which suggests that they didn't leave for NZ until after 1912, at least.

I wasn't able to find a specific unit for William Jones (or rather, to distinguish which William Jones is yours!) but you might find this accounting of life at Trentham interesting and helpful in deciphering any other data you might have on the man?

My only other thought is that kilts were usually the uniform of Scots; was he a member of the Liverpool Scottish, perhaps?  I can't find any reference to them going to New Zealand, though - do you have any indication of how/why he ended up there?  Perhaps to train the New Zealand Army (which was formed in 1914 after Great Britain entered WWI?)

Here's a history of the Liverpool Scottish, which has a few images of uniforms similar to the one in your photo:

Can't quite connect the dots... but hope that helps you do so!

Which St Alban's, I wonder?  If the church was the CofE St Alban's, it was in Limekiln Lane in an area known as Bevington.  If RC it was in Great Howard Street, not far away.

For the uniform, I agree with the Scottish definition [the kilt being just one clue!], but have my doubts about the tartan being right for the Liverpool Scottish.

There are too many of his name to pick out possibles in 1911, even if you eliminate married men and assume that his wedding in 1912 was his first.

Rhoda's address was 89 C China Street Liverpool the year before they were married.  This was to the west of Netherfield Rd South in the West Derby registration district.  She was born in Co Durham, and was a mineral water labourer, living with parents, two brothers and two sisters.
Hope this helps.

Yes Carol (Weep weep)
Thank you Anita and Ainslie. Breathing resumed. This is the correct family and CofE it was. When William came to NZ (after 21/8/1912 thanks) he left Rhoda in Liverpool. She arrived 1915, first child b. 7/1916. Would dearly like to know why William came to NZ. It has been suggested he was a bankrupt tailor shop owner. Or was he mixed up in the 1911 riots. Or was he sent by the British Army.

I have consulted someone who has very good knowledge of the Liverpool Scottish and its history, and cannot do better than post his remarks:

"My immediate guess is Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders
the badge looks very large - the Argyll badge was like a meatplate!

hose tops look right for Argyll

zooming in seems to show dicing on the glengarry but not well enough to determine if it is the Argyll's unique triple row of red and white

tartan looks as though it could be the A&SH government BUT can't see if the green rosettes are present on the right hand edge of the kilt as that area is obscured by the lady

If the photo was taken in NZ there might be some odd [sorry, his word not mine!] kilted regiment out there (I think the Otago Highlanders is a geographical description of the location of a rugby team rather than a regiment although the Otago Regiment is allied to The Highlanders (Seaforth, Gordon and Cameron)

Hose tops and kilt are wrong for Liverpool Scottish, in my opinion."

He is asking someone else for a second opinion, but I do not expect any variation.
