The Green Family of Myanna County Kildare
« on: Friday 18 November 11 12:50 GMT (UK) »
Hi!

I am looking for information on The Green Family of Myanna from County Kildare.

I have a copy of a letter from my grt grt grandmother Briget Egan to one of her grand daughters describing her mother as a member of the Green family.

Bridget emigrated to Australia and married Ponsonby Goldsbury McMahon.

regards

I'm not aware of a town or townland in Co Kildare named Myanna - maybe this refers to the townland of Mynagh ?

This seems to be located in the vicinity of Athy

The townland of Mynagh is in the Poor Law Union of Athy, but it is located much nearer to Kildare town. It is located to the north west of the town inside the triangle formed by the roads between the towns of Kildare, Monastrevin and Rathangan.

see : Kildare to Mynagh  (google map)

Hi Shane

thank you for the swift and multiple responses to my post.

Bridget appears to have been born circa 1831.

I have a copy of a letter written by her to a granddaughter in approximately 1903.  In that letter she refers to her mother as belonging to the Green Family of Myanna(??) one of the oldest protestant families in the county(?).  She states that her mother married a Catholic and converted to Catholicism and gave up much for her new faith!  A certificate that I have for her somewhere gives her mother as Jane Kelly - I think that it is a death certificate (so the name could be wrong) equally Jane Kelly could still be a member of the Green family!

I think that your suggestion of Myannagh is a very interesting lead!
