I had a Great Uncle,Nicholas Mccoy who fought and died in the Boer War.He was shot in 1902......
Would that be 289 Driver N.McCoy, 61st Battery Royal Field Artillery?
Wounded at Brakfontein on 17th March 1902 and died shortly after.
Entitled to a 6-clasp QSA medal - Cape Colony, Tugela Heights, Relief of Ladysmith, Orange Free State, Laings Nek, Belfast.
.........and fought in all the major battles.
I don't think anyone could have claimed that one.

Would all of his medals have been sent home.
Any personal effects were probably sent home.
But his QSA medal would have been issued at home to his next-of-kin. He wouldn't have ever seen it.
