Photograph help

Hi

I have recently received old family photography's taken of family in Scotland and would appreciate any help with background information on the photographers.

1. Eadie Guthrie & Co 17 Argyle Street Glasgow
2. Electric Studios 569 Argyle Street; 113 Trongate Glasgow  / Le Roy Studios 48 Argyle Street
3. Mr. B's Studios  Head Office 55 Argyle Street, Glasgow

The family in number 1 look to be in late Victorian wear and very well dressed
The family in number 2 has a stamp marked 30 Mar 1929 on the back and the man is wearing a bowler type hat, (christening photography)
Number 3 is a young man possible in his mid-late 20s possible around the 1940s/1950s

Any help would be great as I not from Scotland.

My advice would be to have a look through the posts on this forum. They do MORE than just restore photos. I've found them to be very knowledgeable.

You can also try the search box, to see if the studio name has been part of another post query.

1. Operated 1904-1908
2. Not sure about the 2nd one but I've just been researching that address and Robert Smith Photographer operated out of 569 Argyle Street from 1911 to 1914+. That may mean Electric Studios were slightly later given your date?
3. Not sure.

Try the excellent site below. Have a trawl through it and it may show up the addresses for the 3rd one and thus give you approximate dates.

No 1 1904 - 1909 although a PM Eadie remained in business there until 1912

No 2 Doesn't appear in the Photographers Directories (which ended in 1914) but as said the premises at 569 Argyle Street were used from 1911 to 1914 by Robert Smith. In 1911/12 48 Argyle Street is the address of a general goods shop. In 1927 it is the location of a Woolworths store.

No 3 55 Argyle Street doesn't appear in the 1927 directory or the 1943 one although it appears in the 1911/12 directory - the listing is simply F Burnett. Could this be the enigmatic Mr B ?

F A Burnett operated as a photograher from 55 Argyle Street from 1911 to 1914

Sorry to hijack the topic but where is the 1911/12 directory that you speak of? Is it online. I'm researching my own tree and some of the family were split up in 1911. They are listed in premises as "inmates". Would this be a lodging house or workhouse? It's very strange as they were in the house in 1901 census and died at that address after 1911. However in between that time they are listed at these other address. I've got addresses and if I can check them that would be fantastic. Thanks.

Many thanks. I'm just starting out myself and the online resources have truly amazed me. I've done not too bad from identifying the family tree from Scotlands people and I now wanted to build up the background on the movement of the families.

Read some articles last night on Jerome and Dales Photographers which were interesting. Might not be of use to present searcher but they helped me date a few photos based on the development of the postcard. I'll post link when I get home as might help others out.
