Hi Ard,

I'm not sure what else I can tell you about this family. According to the cemetery records, Alexander Littlejohn and Elizabeth (Bethea) Reid are buried in the old churchyard, not close to his parents plot but in a newer (pre 1861) part of the old burial ground. There is a stone on that plot with the inscription -
"Erected by Alexander Littlejohn and Elizabeth Reid in memory of their daughter Janet Littlejohn who died (stone worn here) 1855 aged 3 years".

The plot records, which only begin about 1877, record two interments -

BETHIA LITTLEJOHN, aged 59 years, interred 14th May 1885.
ALEXANDER LITTLEJOHN, aged 67 years, interred 7th January 1893.

From the cemetery Day Book I found 2 other interments for that plot -

JOHN LITTLEJOHN, mason, Wishaw, aged 20 years, unmarried.
Parents - Alexander Littlejohn & Bethea Reid.
Interred in the old churchyard, 10th August 1875.

ALEXANDER LITTLEJOHN, joiner, Manchester, aged 21 years, unmarried.
Parents - Alexander Littlejohn & Bethea Reid.
Interred in the old churchyard, 7th June 1878.

Also from the Day Books I found a plot in the new cemetery with two interments. (There will probably be more but the records I have finish at 1917).

Plot D447.

JOHN LITTLEJOHN, tailor, Wishaw, aged 49 years, married.
Parents - Alexander Littlejohn & Bethea Reid.
Interred 10th September 1898.

MARY M. LITTLEJOHN, Wishaw, aged 5 months.
Parents - James Littlejohn & Margaret Jane Taylor.
Interred 31st October 1892.
Paterson, Torrance, Gilchrist - Hamilton Lanarkshire.
McCallum - Oban, McKechnie - Ross of Mull Argyll.
Scrim - Perthshire.
Liddell - Polmont,
Binnie - Muiravonside Stirlingshire.
Curran, McCafferty, Stevenson, McCue - Co Donegal
Gibbons, Weldon - Co Mayo.
Devlin - Co Tyrone.
Leonard - County Donegal & Glasgow.

Hi,
I'm on the hunt for a picture of the Hislop family stone in Cambusnethan if anyone can oblige. I understand my grand aunt is buried there as she married the 2nd Hislop son but the only picture I have must be before they died as their names are not on it (not that it looked like there was much room left for anymore writing)
Peter Hislop 1870-1901, his son John Hislop killed in action in 1916, his wife Mary Shaw 1871-1943. My grand aunt, Agnes Alexander Paterson 1908-1975 married George S Hislop 1898-1951
Thanks
Lynn

Hi Lynn,

I went to the cemetery today (nice weather!) and found the Hislop stone right away, I wish all my trips there were so easy.
Your aunt and uncle's name have never been added I'm afraid, I'll try and find out if they are definitely interred there. Here are the photographs I took today, it's a lovely old stone.

Hi Lodger
Thanks for that. It certainly looks a lovely stone and is still standing proud.  I'm sure they were buried there.  What a pity no-one added their names.
Thanks very much for going to take a picture. Much appreciated.
Regards
Lynn

Hi,

I’m not sure if this is the correct place to post this but I’m wondering if anyone could help.

I’m looking for a William Andrew or Andrews born in 1871 and died in 1902. I think he is buried in cambusnethan cemetery but am unsure where.

Would be extremely grateful if anyone could help.

Thanks in advance

Hello again KylaH26,

The period 1901 - 1905 is missing in the Cambusnethan cemetery records that I have.
I couldn't find his death on the Scotlandspeople index for 1902.
Do you know where exactly he died? Town? county?
Can you supply his mother's maiden surname? That would really help.
Was he any relation to a family called Andrews who had some sort of connection with church missions? Perhaps living in Kirk Road, Wishaw?

Regards,
Lodger
