Benjamin and Carrie Grills.
« on: Monday 14 November 11 19:23 GMT (UK) »
Researching some family history for a friend. Her great grandfather Benjamin Grills and daughter Carrie who were born in Kilkeel, Co. Down Ireland appear in the 1910 US census living in Pittsburgh. I believe Carrie (Caroline) married and lived in Detroit. We think that Benjamin eventually returned home to Kilkeel.Does anybody researching the Grills family recognise their names? Benjamin's wife was Sarah Caroline Hanna and their children's names were Cora Mabel, Reginald, Thomas Joseph, Meta, Caroline and possibly Martha. Sarah, Reginald, and Carrie followed Benjamin to America in 1898 but left a couple of years later. She was back in Kilkeel for the 1901 census. Would be grateful for any info. Thanks

Think over here we might think its to do with horses (ostler).  Anyway thanks for the info. Heather.

... We think that Benjamin eventually returned home to Kilkeel...

You've maybe discovered this in the interim... but it looks possible, GRONI online has a death registered in Kilkeel registration district for a Sarah Grills who died on 30 June 1927, this per PRONI (although the date differs): Grills Sarah of Kilkeel county Down died 2 July 1927 Administration Belfast 9 January to Benjamin Grills farmer the husband. Effects £192 15s.

GRONI online also has a death registered in Kilkeel registration district for a Benjamin Grills who died on 1 February 1948 with a reported age of 80.

Thanks to all who helped in my quest for the Grills family in Kilkeel and USA. Spoke to my friend yesterday and she thinks that Kiwiwalły is likely to be related to her great aunt Meta who went to New Zealand. Her middle name is Meta after her aunt Meta and probably before that her great aunt. I have suggested she registers on here then she can contact you here first. Thanks again euansma
