Hello Janet

I would be most interested to know what area of Lanarkshire your Pettigrew family came from. I have a connection to a Pettigrew family that lived in the Cambuslang/Blantyre area.

Regards

Hello Nick,
The first I know of the family are James P. m.Janet Steel in Wishaw 1829.  Their son Thomas b.c1829 m.Janet Smith in 1856. From their marr. cert. they both live in Cambusnethan, he is a labourer in the iron works and James was an agricultural labourer.  Thomas and Janet lived at Levenseat West Calder and that remained the family home for some time.  My grandparents lived there in the 1920's.  They had 12 children and I have sketchy details on some of them. Thomas worked on the railway and lived in Bathgate, from 1891 census I have traced offspring, Mary, Janet and Marion.  Marionb. 1869 m. Henshelwood; according to the family bible she died at Parkhead Overtown Wishaw 15/9/1913.  Jane b.1873 m. Watson; he was a pithead man so I assume they were probably in the West Calder/ Bathgate area. The Isabella who married a McMaster stayed round the Fauldhouse/ Longridge area I think.  Agnes m. a Tait who was the gardener at Wester Dawyck Peebles in later years.  Until recently we didn't know there was a family bible and most branches of the family are unknown to my father.  His dad died when he was very small and he had been the youngest of the tribe  who had left home before my grandmother came on the scene.  She remarried and rarely spoke of her first husband.
It would be great if I am able to track down some of the missing links. Janet

I am still not sure whether your Pettigrews are connected as I haven't had time to investigate properly. However could I suggest that you have a look at the following sites and see if you can spot anything relevent.

1. http://www.dgdclynx.plus.com/bath/findings.html

This site is run by Douglas Clark who is a great guy and the other is which is run by his cousin.

2.http://www.enternet.co.nz/users/colin/genealogyweb.html

Hope this might help

Nick

Thanks Nick, I had seen the first site you suggested and at the moment can't find a link but I'll keep it in mind. Janet
