« on: Friday 11 November 11 09:41 GMT (UK) »
Arthur Dunne, a barrister, Dublin and first captain of Attorneys Cavalry and Crown Solicitor for Connaught 1794-1814.
I wonder if this name rings any bells?
I'd love to hear from someone with a connection - thanks.

I realise that this an old request and the OP hasn't been logged in since it was made however he/she may have notifications turned on.

I have a connection to an Arthur DUNNE, solicitor, Dublin whom I believe died in c1814 and was married to an Emily GORDON -they married in 1780 - five children one of whom was my ggggrandfather who was the second child and second son born 1785/6.

Cheers

Hi Brenda  :)

Oh this is exciting.

So according to your information, Arthur and Emily had more than the five children I have noted in my tree.

I am descended from their son George, who was in the Military Accounts Office in Dublin and died in 1824. George's son, Wm Henry, from his second marriage, emigrated with his wife and chn to Australia.

According to my records and the Dublin Marriage License Index, Arthur DUNNE and Jane GORDON were married in 1780 and I note that a Hester DUNN and William HUNTER married in 1785...so this needs further investigation.

Handwritten notes in 1893 by my gggrandfather Wm Henry DUNNE, state his father was George who died in 1824 and George's father was Arthur DUNNE, a solicitor in Dublin and mother Emily GORDON.

I would certainly be interested in your research that Hester was the daughter of Arthur and Emily.

I will send pm my email address.

Cheers  :)

Just in case there is interest in this thread, it would appear that Arthur DUNNE who died in 1814 is Hester's brother not her father.  I found their baptisms [Arthur 1761 and Hester 1864] at St Mary's COI, Dublin with parents Arthur and Mary.

Cheers

An update on the above information above some of which was found to be incorrect.

Arthur DUNNE Snr. born 1737 died 21 Feb 1814 and is buried in St James Church Cemetery, Dublin and his MI gives his age and former occupation.  His wife was Mary UNKNOWN who died 27 Jan 1787.

Arthur had a substantial estate which included properties in Dominick Street and Rockville House on Glenamuck Road, Carrickmines - which I understand, still stands.

Their eight children included
1.  Arthur born 23 Feb 1761 and may have died 8 May 1792.  Arthur married Jane GORDON in 1780 and their second son George born 1885 died on 28 Jul 1824 in Dublin.  George married twice 1. Jane JACOB and 2. Eliza WALSH [my line]

2. Hester born 13 Sep 1764 and died 1796 Dublin.  She married William HUNTER 30 Jul 1785 at St James COI, Dublin.  Four children posted on the thread. [Brenda's line]

Hi!
Just came across this site and thread today on google while doing some research. So I have created an account. I am a descendant of the Dunne family living in Melbourne, Australia. William Henry Dunne is my gggg grandfather. As I'm new, I'm still trying to work out exactly how the site works. I see this thread is a few years old, but hopefully you will still receive notifications? I'm wondering if perhaps you have found some further information on any members of the Dunne family during that time. I am travelling to Dublin in a few weeks and would be very interested to visit any relevant sites i.e. graves, properties owned etc. if possible linked to the Dunne family. For example, I believe William Henry owned property in Grafton Street, Dublin.

Anything you have would be great.
Thanks all  :)

Welcome.  What do you know about William Henry Dunne?

Born when? (approx)
Did he marry in Ireland?
Religion?

etc

Basically... what Irish records are you looking for?
Give a man a record and you feed him for a day.
Teach a man to research, and you feed him for a lifetime.

Thank you!
I have a fair amount of info about William. I believe he was born in Cork in approx. Oct 1822. And was also married in Ireland to Eliza Skelton before coming to Australia, where he lived and died. He was a school teacher and I believe he owned numerous properties in Dublin, leaving some to his daughter in his will. What I'm really struggling to find is a lot of info about this father, George, grandfather Arthur and great grandfather Arthur Snr. (and wives). I've got rough dates for births, death and marriages etc. but probably more so, particularly with my travels to Ireland coming up soon, looking to see if anyone is aware of any sites I can visit linked to William, George, Arthur, Arthur and any other members in that direct line. Prehaps their graves, properties they owned/lived in etc. I know that's fairly broad but just wanted to ask in case someone had come across something. But as I said, literally any extra information that can be offered is appreciated.
