Wymersley Road, Hull
« on: Thursday 10 November 11 12:54 GMT (UK) »
Hi all  :)
Wondering if anyone has info on the nissen huts in Wymersley road Hull?  I lived in one around 1953/54. pretty sure of the date because we all got an apostle sppon from school for the Coronation.
My BIL is adamant there were no nissen huts there, and that if there were, it would be for military.
I KNOW I lived in one as a youngster.
Thanking you in anticipation.

hi stas
why not get in touch here www.hullhistorycentre.org.uk
it,s part of hull library there,s a local studies centre so they should be able to tell you all .
as to your actual post this is pure guesswork but maybe with hull being a sea port those nissen huts were part of a naval barracks only all along the east coast in ww2 from dover all the way up to at least hull may be even further were various naval bases for all sorts of craft especially the mgb,s mtb,s and coastal patrol craft but they could also have been temporary accomodation for troops waiting for embarkation , no doubt someone will be along now to put me right  ;D

Re Nissan Huts, they was used by the army during the war, my husbands nanna lived in Wymersley road for years, and she remembered when they were used by the army.
