« on: Tuesday 08 November 11 05:52 GMT (UK) »
Hi all,
I'm looking for details on Thomas Nelson (Born : 1590). Lived in Scarning, Norfolk. Married Elizabeth in 1608 . Children included Edmund (Bn 1610 in Suffolk).
I'm particularly interested in who were Thomas's children.
Appreciate any help
Craig Hawke

Hi

There appears to be a few differences but after 300+ years it's not surprising...

Source, IGI (Submitted entries):
B. 1590 Thomas, s. of William Nelson & Mrs Wm. Nelson, Scarning.
About 1609 Thomas Nelson & Elizabeth, Wendling, mar. Note: This entry has Thomas b. 1580 in London.

Source, IGI (Extr. entry):
13 Jan 1591 Thomas Nelson, s. of Edmund, Suffolk, bap. I mention this because of your reference to Edmund.

There are a few trees on Anc. with a lot of unsourced info, it may be worth you looking through those and the IGI entries for something that may attract your attention. It  may also be worth mentioning, if your dates are correct, Thomas would be 18 or 19 when he married, not unheard of, but...

Geoff

Hello,

This is Admiral Lord Nelson's family isn't it?

There's a lot of information on the internet, which I'm sure you've already looked at.  There are a lot of claims that the family lived in Scarning in the early 1600's - but no proof, as far as I can see.  The family was certainly there during the late 1600's.

The parish records for Scarning are online too, and date back to 1538.

Unusually, for something so old, they are remarkably clear, though not easy to read - I think the writing was called "Secretary hand".

Here's a link to the page with 1590 baptisms - (the only Thomas, that I can see was baptised on 4 July, "filius William - I think the surname is Mighall or McHall) -

Hi

I did wonder about the connection to Horatio, being Norfolk...

Like Yorkslass, I can see nothing substantiated for Scarning (dates you provide) except the 2 submitted entries I mentioned in an earlier reply.

Would be interesting if someone has the facilities to develop this thread.
