RCB Dublin
« on: Tuesday 08 November 11 00:52 GMT (UK) »
Hello - I wonder if this is the right place for my query.  I am based in London and am trying to find the birth of an ancestor in the Church of Ireland.  Details are:
James Henry HUNTER
Father: William
Mother: Henrietta/Hester Dunn(e)
supposedly baptised St Mary's Dublin (CoI) approx 1790-1795
Is there anyone who would be prepared to do a look-up for me?  Is this appropriate?
I haven't been able to find anything on Ancestry or Family Search and I would be extremely grateful if someone could help me, please.
I will keep my fingers crossed.
Thanks.  :)

Records for St. Mary's Church of Ireland parish in Dublin City are available (free) on www.irishgenealogy.ie

Baptisms are included back to the 1690s, but I dont see any likely matches for a baptism for James..

Thank you, Shane. I wonder if all the Church of Ireland details are on the site you've given me?

It's a bit of a mystery.  On his naval papers it gives details of his baptism and this is authorised by two church officials.  However, as you say, there is no evidence of a baptism, and the two officials are non-existent.  I can only assume that he lied to the Naval Board.  A brother and sister were baptised at St Audeon's, so perhaps I should be looking there.

Thanks again for your response.

As far as I know all the available St Mary's records are included on the IrishGenealogy website - there are baptisms listed for each for the years between 1790-1795 (between about 130 and 160 per year).

It's possible there are missing or damaged / illegible pages. For most of the St. Mary's records you have an option to view an image of the page.
