The name Cocksedge

Joseph Nobes, born late 18th century in Norfolk, was given the middle name Cocksedge (at least according to the IGI).  I can't find a placename anything like it, so any ideas where it came from?
Godden in East Sussex, mainly Hastings area.
Richards in Lea, Gloucestershire, then London.
Williamson in Leith, Vickers in Nottingham.
Webb in Bildeston and Colchester.
Wesbroom in Kirby le Soken.
Ellington in Harwich.
Park, Palmer, Segar and Peartree in Kersey.

Most probably means nothing, but.........................
I live in a small village in Norfolk and there was once a farm in the village, long gone now, but the house still stands and is called Cocksedge.
Your post just caught my eye because I always thought it was an unusual name

I've looked on the IGI and there were quite a few people with the surname of Cocksedge in Norfolk.  I suppose Joseph's family was connected with them somewhere along the line.  And maybe the name derives from the farm you mention.  Where is it?

Hi,

Just seen your message about the name "Cocksedge".  My maiden name was Cocksedge and most of my ancestors (of which there were quite a few) originated in Suffolk.  I have been able to trace them back to around the mid 1500's.

Hi, Jenny, fascinating to know that it isn't such an unusual name, just confined to a relatively small area.  If any of your Cocksedges had any connections with any Nobes I'd love to hear about it.

My granny was a Cocksedge and suprise, surprise she came from Suffolk too, her family came from Great Welnetham.
