The White House, Barlborough, Derbyshire
« on: Monday 07 November 11 16:32 GMT (UK) »
I am renovating a property on Church Street, Barlborough and have documents to suggest that it was once known as The White House.

I know that a Mrs Atkins was the last person to live there and may have done so since 1927.

Does anyone have any information to tell me anything about thhe building? when it was built?, other occupants/tennants etc?

It was previously owned by the de Rodes family and later formed part of the Renishaw Estate.

Thanks,

Martyn Jones

Hi Martj,

Welcome to Rootschat!

I would suggest two things, firstly try writing to the Renishaw Estate and asking them what information they can offer you - worth a shot, if you haven't already tried that.

You could also try a visit to Chesterfield Library, and look at their old maps that they have in the local history section, if there have been any changes to the building that will show up on a map - pick their brains, they may well have Balborough local history info too.

Is there a Barlborough local history group, or an old folks club?  Always worth a try for old local information!

Good luck,

Thanks Copperbeech,

I have tried the Renshaw Estate but they weren't hopeful of any assistance.
The local history group have helped with some things.
I went to the Derbyshire Archive and need to spend more time there understanding the information available.

Hi,

Do try Chesterfield Library though, not just the Archive, and quiz the staff, I have been amazed what they can come up with - if you get them engaged!

Best wishes,
