Looking at one of the Nicholas Harveys mentioned in the E43 inscription above, "... Captain of the 'Cumberland'
who was lost with his wife and crew Sept .. 1829 aged 29"; this chap appears to be slightly off to one side of my tree.
I have come across the 1831 baptism, in Rye Baptist church, of a Nicholas Cumberlander Harvey; parents James Harvey and Ann. It seemed such a strange middle name, that I can't help wondering if it might be connected with the couple who died on the Cumberland in some way. In the 1861 census he is a painter, living in Hastings, as "brother" of Martha Golding.
