John Cundell - Buried St Lukes 1839
« on: Saturday 05 November 11 02:48 GMT (UK) »
My 4th gt-grandfather John Cundell is proving elusive.
Born in 1796 in Scruton Yorkshire he was married in Sculcoates, but ended up living in George Yard, Whitechapel in 1827 where my 3rd gt-grandfather William was born.

I have been unable to find any entry for John Cundell in any census 1841 onwards.
I know that John was dead by 1866, because in his brother Daniel's will he is referred to as 'my late brother'.

On his son William's marriage certificate in 1850, William lists his father as a Wine & Spirit Merchant. Interestingly he doesn't show him as deceased, but there is a death listed in March 1839 ...

Cundell John St Luke 2 210 (Middlesex/london)

St Luke is only a couple of miles from Whitechapel, where John was living in 1827.

I wonder if anyone is able to find any further information about this John Cundell's death .. perhaps a birthdate / birthplace, or next of kin. ANYTHING would perhaps give me a link or a lead to be able to confirm or disregard this John as my ancestor.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers, Paul

Hi

Considering William was in Scruton Yorkshire in 1841 with possibly his grandfather William and extended family, would it be more likely that the period in London for the family was short lived and they returned to Yorkshire and John died either in Yorkshire or unfortunately some point in between?

Have you been able to track John's marriage and his wife? Did they have any other children?

Regards

Valda
