Bowerman ancesters

I am really hoping someone may be able to help me with my research. My great grandfather - Edward Bowerman, was born c1848 Devon, maybe Tiverton. I have a copy of his marriage certificate dated 1884 in Exeter which says he was 36. In the 1851 census it shows Edward with parents Richard and Eliza in Tiverton and states he is 2 which would make his birth 1849c. I cannot find him in any other census records. I know him and his wife Emma Tratt went to Australia and 3 children were born there but one died. Edward did not return to England he was killed in a train accident when working on the railway. I would really like to know where he was in the census records for 1861/1871/1881. I think his parents may have had died by 1861. Any help would be really appreciated and I know the above is complicated to take in. Thanks in advance. Jayne

Looking on FreeBMD there is only one likely birth registered for an Edward Bowerman around the right time in Devon:
Births Dec 1/4 1846

Not sure if you've seen the Sydney City Coroner's Report ?
His inquest was on 16 Nov 1888 (he died on the 15th), and his age was reported as 42, which ties in with an 1846 birth.
RIP 1949-10th January 2013
Best Wishes, Nick.

Their ages differ greatly from census to census.

I had to make a hasty exit yesterday and didn't have a chance to say that I was unable to find Edward on the 1871 census. I haven't looked for him in 1881 yet.
