Samuel Dodd born around 1807

Hi

I'm trying to confirm the baptism/parents of Samuel Dodd born around 1807 in Crewe, Cheshire.  Samuel went on to marry Ellen Bostock in 1828 and died in Silverdale in 1855.

Any information would be appreciated.

Well Helen I can't answer your main query about the parent of Samuel.However the 1861 Census shows Samuel was still alive after having apparently remarried to a Catherine-RG9/1922/20/2.There is another possible death for him in 1862 in the Wolstanton District of Staffordshire.

I posted it on both boards as I knew that Samuel had lived in both counties and I wasn't completely sure which county Crewe was in back then.

Yes, sorry my mistake - Samuel died in 1862.  It was Ellen Bostock his first wife who died in 1855.  I had been able to trace through his later life but just not able to find a baptism or identify his parents.

Can you be more precise about the area of baptism / birth, Crewe was not the name commonly used until 1837+ it was Monks Coppenhall, therefore it is one of the villages that you need to let us have the name of!

Certainly there are DODD's in Wybunbury and yes they crossed between Madeley / Woolstanton Staffs and the villages around Wybunbury!

The certificate should give you a fathers name.........

The only sources I have for Samuel's place of birth are the census returns for 1841, 1851 and 1861.  Both the 1851 and 1861 returns record his place of birth as being "Crewe".

However, I believe, from IGI index, that he married Ellen Bostock in Coppenhall in 1828.  From what you said, I think this is now what is called Crewe?

Thank you for the information on his marriage to Catherine.  I knew he'd married Catherine but not got any details.  Maybe I'll order a certificate.  It would be just my luck for the father's name not to be recorded!
