Thompson/McKim Family
« on: Tuesday 01 November 11 21:47 GMT (UK) »
I am at a stand-still with this part of my family tree...so if there are any helper's out there...I would be most grateful!

I'm researching (unsuccessfully) Almina Abigail Thompson b: About 1831 in Hastings, Ontario (Not sure if this is accurate), d: Oct 29, 1900 in Hastings, Ontario.  She married on March 2, 1853 to Thomas Edward McKim b: Feb 18, 1820 d: June 22, 1905 - Thomas Edward McKim descends from the United Empire Loyalists - His father was Thomas U.E.L McKim 1795-1874 his mother Susanna Huffman.  Thomas and Almina had 5 children: Thomas (Thos) 1858-1935, Erastus 1861-1913, Sarah 1863-1901, Almina  (Alminy) 1867, and Bernie 1866.. I can find no information on Almina/Almira but I'm starting to wonder if she's not related so some other Thompson's in my tree... anyone with any insight would make me happy! :)

Thank you... the Heather's Tree in Ancestry is mine :)... the Quebec thing is something I've read but never investigated... perhaps I should.  It is close to where she lived/settled, so it is entirely possible.

Good evening,

There are a couple of other family trees for this family, but they are private trees. You will nee to contact the owners thru Ancestry. Have you tried looking at local newspapers though their area public library(s)?

about Almina Thompson Name: Almina Thompson

That isn't the correct Almina. This one converted to the Anglican Church in 1838 as the entry says "Almina Thompson, by her maiden name Osborn, daughter of Samuel Osborn of the State of Vermont and ? ? ?, his wife" (there are a few words I can't make out including the name of Samuel's wife).

Here's a possible family for Almina on the 1852 Canada census in Thurlow, Hastings County (starts on line 32):
http://data2.collectionscanada.ca/1851_pdf/e095/e002353501.pdf
The given name looks like Elmira but it could be Elmina and she is the right age. The parents are Robert and Agnes Thompson.

Thanks Jacquie... it just might be..and is my absolute first clue as to who her parents were!  I have seen her name spelled Almira and Almina...so it is quite possible that Elmira/Elmina is the one.  There was another Almina/Almira in Hastings, but information on her indicates she's younger than mine... so thank you!

Hi,

If you have other details, like the surnames of the spouses of children or known relatives, it can be a big help in checking files. My Loyalist ancestors, Babcock and Lewis, were in Lennox and Addington Co. but often married into other Loyalist families living nearby. Occupations and any specific locations are also a big help. Have you searched the O.G.S. archives and the marriage records online?

Cheers,
sword

jacquie's find also is close to the 1891 listing for Almina, where it says father born Ireland, mother Ontario
http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/databases/census-1891/001081-119.02-e.php?person_id_nbr=1687167

This may be reaching but if there weren't that many Rob't Thompsons in Thurlow,  there is this death for
an Isabell Janet Mcgee b. c 1835...and has mother Agnes Foster...could look into this couple for a possible match or solid reject.
