i have found this site very useful for tracing some of my family who were coal miners , lots of info
i relalise it may have been posted before ,if so i thought id post again as so many people have coal mining ancestors and the site still gets updated,
 hope someone else find it useful too

There is also the Durham Mining Museum which might help  if you have ancestors in the north.
