Murray/Stenhouse

I am looking for the birth of Margaret Murray, b.abt 1827. She married James Stenhouse in 1858, in Edinburgh. He was from Haddington, East Lothian, so I am assuming that Edinburgh was the bride's parish.

Am I right in assuming this? She died in New Zealand, and I haven't been able to find out who her parents are. So, is there any way of finding out more about her with such a little amount of information.

Hello marriage entry got - shall post a cut of both parents names for a bit of deciphering . - 5 mins   :O)

I make parents of James (aged 22) - Robert Stonehouse (labourer) and Margaret Stenhouse - Maiden Name - Morrison.

Margarets (aged 28) parents are more difficult..  William Murray - Spirit Dealer - deceased and Janet Murray - Maiden name - Ba??ll....

Over to all for an interpretation.  Maybe someone can find them on the ? '41 census - I'm assuming that Margaret was working on her own account by the'51.....

Thanks so much. I can make out some of it (I know his parents' names) and her's seem to be William and Janet.  Her mothers maiden name is proving a bit more difficult

I found Margaret's birth and her mother is listed as Janet Douall. The births of her siblings have the same maiden name, with spelling variations like Dowell.

Went back onto the official govt website at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk  hada look for Jane/et Marray - other name Ba**** deaths in all of Scotland from 1855 to 1920.  There are 27 and none look remotely like it - especially if the mothers maiden name ends in ll.  Shall send you the list now.

Do you want me to get the mothers death entry - if I can find it - assuming she died in Scotland?

If you don't mind. I think the marriage entry might be wrong, because when I looked for births, the only one I could find that was similar has the mother as Margaret Douall/Dowell.

Hello Mel - the marriage entry is correct as in all of Scotland 1855 to 2009 there are only 5 Stenhouse Murray marriages and the '1858 one is the only one remotely like it.    I'll post you the list of Janet Murray deaths I mentioned earlier - FYI have just forwarded the marriage entry.

Sorry, I meant that they may have recorded it wrong. It's definitely the right marriage record, because everything else lines up.
