Whilst not discounting the possibility that the parents of John Hampson, born 1806, could be William Hampson, a weaver from Warrington and his wife, Mary, nobody has yet mentioned the marriage at Runcorn on 5 Sept. 1804 of John Hampson and Ellen Bowers of Runcorn. Surely another candidate for John's parents.

Just a thought.

Hi, everyone,

I have Margaret Hampson in my 'Hankey' tree. I understand she was born at Weaverham in 1846 and died in 1910 at Northwich or nearby. She was the daughter of William & ? (no other details to hand).

She married Henry Hankey in 1873 at Weaverham but the strange thing is her surname was listed as Thompson. Had she been married before? Does anyone know?

On the 1881 Census Margaret, Henry and their children, Maria, Thomas & Richard are residing at Old Boat Road, Barnton and Henry is listed as a Salt Boiler.

Hope this slots in somewhere.

Regards, David

The Cheshire County Council tithe maps show a William Hamson as one of the occupiers of cottages at Littlemore Row, in 1847. You may need to copy and paste the whole URL to get to the right map,

Ceratonia, what a coincidence! I was looking at the same Tithe maps yesterday, so I popped along to Stockton Heath and stood outside the very same Littlemore,s Row. It is now Kimberley Drive and I'm not sure if they are the same cottages but they are certainly of a good age. I identified them from the old maps on that Cheshire website and then found them on Google Earth.

Hi all

I am a Hampson, living in Antigua in the Caribbean (West Indies); trying to trace the line of a Joseph Hampson, whose father's name is George Hampson.  We do not have information in Antigua about Joseph's parents or their relations and we are preparing for a family reunion next summer and would love to get as much of the information as possible.  Can you help me please?

My grandfather's name is Wycliffe Hampson, born in 1916 Antigua and died at 95 yrs of age, 2 years ago.  We never knew his father or his father's father... Is there anyone out there with any information at all?

Interested in this line, because my GGrandfather's sister, Susan Hinman, was one of the several wives of Robert Owen Hampson.  Is anyone on the list directly descended from Robert Owen Hampson?  Quick explanation.  Robert's "squeeze" at the 1891 census, when he was still married to Susan Hinman, was Eliza Cottier, b Douglas IOM.  Eliza and Robert had three surviving children, two of whom went to Canada as Home Children.  Eliza (we think) had another two illegitimate children prior to taking up with Robert Owen Hampson.  Both of these children were also adopted, and one went to Canada.

My other boatmen interests are:
Hinman/Inman, Seymour, Salt, Fradley, Swift, Lunt, Cawley, Musson, Northwood, Underhill, Harrison.

Richard Hampson 1768-1926 and wife Mary Roylance family memorial.  All Saints Church, Runcorn.  Other names are Sarah Hampson – died 27.Nov.1827 age 22.

Mary Hampson -  can’t read any of her details but it could be Mary (Roylance) Hampson as I can read ‘wife’ aged 55  (d/o the above.)

Sarah Hampson – died 27.11.1827 age 22.   This would be Sarah born 1805, daughter of Richard and Mary (Roylance) Hampson.

John – the only things I can read there is ‘son of’.

Mary – This would be Mary Ann Hampson born 1803 as it shows ‘daughter’ and her age at death 80 years.

Kitty – This would be the wife of John born 1813 as it shows her year of death as 1885, age 66,

TRANSPORT IN THE MANCHESTER AREA AND BEYOND IN 1820.

Two elegant passage -boats - Richard Hampson & James Parkinson, Masters, for passengers and their luggage only, go alternatively form Manchester to Runcorn, in Cheshire, one of which leaves Castle-Quay, Manchester every morning, at eight o'clock:  Passes Altrincham at 10 o'clock, London-Ridge, near Warrington, at one: (where coaches meet it to convey passengers to Warrington and Liverpool).  Passes Preston Book, near Frodsham, at three, (where a stage-coach meets it to convey passengers to Chester) and arrive (Runcorn) at five in the evening.

The above Richard fits in well who married Mary Roylance  He was born in 1768 and would have been 52 in 1820.  He died in 1826 aged 58
