« on: Sunday 30 October 11 19:59 GMT (UK) »
hi there!!
im looking for my grand-father and great grandfather!!...im afraid i dont really know very much about him!!

My Grandfather was from Ireland (presumably Armagh Area),...and he married my nan, in 1945, in Hampshire, England, after having 2 children, with her, he absconded back to Ireland,..where he re-married and went onto to have 3 more children!!!

I have Tracked down, who i think could be my great grandfather!!...he was shot dead, by the british army, in june 1922, age 37, york street, belfast!
we knew, that he was shot, and relatives say that John Ireland, our grandfather was born the day that Our Great Grandfather John Ireland was shot!
i dont have anyother info on either of these john irelands!,,,,so if anyone can shed anylight,..i would be eternally greatfull.....btw,..i do belong to ancestry,..but not really getting any info from there!!

kindest regards
Gina Ireland!

Both the 1901 and 1911 Irish census are online (free). I searched for a John Ireland, age 6 in 1901 but there are none in County Armagh (and none born in County Armagh that age)- see here

Any idea what religion the family would have been? In 1911 census there's a John Ireland around the correct age in Armagh but he was born in Co. Down- see here

I don't think there are any Belfast online newspapers for 1920s.

Just thought of something- does the 1945 marriage certificate list father's occupation?

Belfast online cemetery has death listed-
John IRELAND, age 26, died 23 June 1922 at Royal Victoria Hospital (buried 26 June 1922 City Cemetery - Glenalina Extension grave G290)- last residence was 5 Stanley Lane.

There might be other relatives buried in the same plot but it will take you a while to go through results if just searching by surname.

With the cemetery address, here's the family in 1911, including 15 year old John:
www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Antrim/Dock_Ward__Belfast_Clifton_/Stanley_Lane/131993

and here they are in 1901- no trace of any Co. Armagh connection:

wow,..thanks for the swift reply!!

im sorry,..i dont have the actual marriage certificate, just the marriage entry, from ancestry.co.uk...so only includes bride/grooms names, date, and area, of marriage!!..we know John Ireland (jnr) died aged 58,..somewhere in Ireland,..family members persume Belfast area....he was supposedly born the day his father John Ireland(snr).aged 37 was a protestant, and shot dead, on the 21 june 1922, in york street, Belfast!!!

dont know the religion,...but being a protestant,....would that give anything away??

maybe if i could get a hold of the actual marriage certificate,...might help!!
thanks again
Gina

The family in the census are Church of Ireland. Would you like me to keep looking and see what else I might be able to find?
