Glad you had this success! I had looked up the St. Andrews registry from sometime in 1861, but didn't find anything. I will also keep looking now that there is a further address. Don

G'Day All. Thank you for all the help you have provided during this Quest, it is on-going, but  I feel sure we will eventually find Oliver and Mary and maybe even some distant relations.
Merry Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous New Year to you all

Hello
I'm trying to track down my wife's Ledwidge ancestors in the St James' Parish in the mid 19th Century..in particular Frances Ledwidge who was born/baptised in 1841 , or thereabouts ,and who married a Thomas Kenny at St James' in1863. The family later moved to Scotland.

At the time of her marriage she was living at 70 James St. and her Marriage Banns sponsors were given as Patrick Ledwidge of 70 James St. and a Mary Anne Kearnes of New Kilmainham [ were these her parents, brother, married sister, or was Mary Anne Kearnes related to to Thomas Kenny ?

The 1851 Census for Dublin lists a Michael Ledwidge as Head of Household at  70 James St..is he the father /brother of Patrick and/or Frances?

The same Census lists a Richard Ledwidge as Head of Household at 107 James St.
l
Has anyone any info relating to the above Ledwidges ?

I have some other info  on Ledwidges contained in the 1851  Census if anyone is interested [ unfortunately Windows VISTA is incompatible with the 1851 CD so I cannot undertake any searches
Regards
Harry

some info from several Thom's directories :

James street, Civil parish of St. James

1848

  70,  Tenements
107, Wm McCarty - boarding Hse

(there are several Ledwich, Ledwidge, entries in other parts of the city)

1863 :

     70, Michael Ledwith - carpenter
    107, Richard Ledwich - dairy

by 1877 the section where Michael lived of James Street was occupied by Arthur Guinness & Co. (68 to 81 and 83/84) In the same year 107 is occupied by a Thomas J. Ledwidge - dairy

Richard Ledwidge at 107 was my ggggrandfather, his son Thomas was my gggrandfather. Other Ledwidge relatives lived at different addresses on James St. but I haven't yet found a link between my relatives at 107 and the Ledwidges at 70. Ledwidges were living in this area since the Reformation (mid-16th century). I'll check my database of Ledwidges and see whether I can find any further info about those at no 70. A Bridget Ledwidge ran a boarding house there in the 1840s.
