another directory entry for you to consider - this time from Slater's of 1846.

Oliver Ledwith, carpenter and builder, 70 James st

The date is a bit to old to be Oliver (c1835) - but with a the same name and a similar trade .. could he be your Oliver's father ?

Thanks,  on the same site there was a Pettigrew and Poultons 1842 he was in 73 James St.
I think he was the one born 1782, so he could be Grandfather of my Oliver.

Firstly, thanks to Gorman G for input -I try my best with computers.
Oliver L.-there is no entry in my source work to The Irish Times newspaper 1859-1901 in either Leinster or Leinster Road West for him in that period. The roads are in the Protestant Episc. Parish of Holy Trinity Rathmines or the Roman Catolic parish of St. Mary  Rathmines Road. Their records commence in C.1850

I'm almost certain that the Oliver Ledwith at 70 James St should be Oliver Ledwidge - that address used to be a boarding house run by a Mrs. Ledwidge. My Ledwidge ancestors lived in 107 James St and I was told they had relatives further along the street, including a Michael and a John. I have a lot of info on Dublin Ledwidges and will look it up.

I checked my Ledwidge DB and found that an Oliver Ledwith (whom I always assumed was the one from Mabbot St in 1851) died in Dublin in 1883.

There were quite a number of Ledwidges (and variant spellings) in and around Dublin in the middle of the 19th century, in the Liberties alone there were several dozen. Only a fraction of them appeared in the street directories or even in Chart's 1851 census, and a number of them lived outside what was then the city boundaries, for example in Rathfarnham or Clondalkin. So one can't jump to conclusions...

Just for clarification, since I've been in touch with Ledwidge off-line: that newspaper article about Oliver Ledwidge refers to Leinster Street, not Leinster Road.  If it is Leinster Street South then St. Andrews would be the best bet for baptismal certs for his children, and I'll take a look at these next week in the library if I find the time. If it's the Leinster Street on the north side, then that's a different matter.

I am married to a Ledwidge and have been researching the Ledwidges from Celbridge, Lucan, Dublin and Slane .I found the marriage record of an Oliver Ledwidge and Margaret Moran both with an address at 21 St. Andrews street Dublin on  23 November 1873 . I think the Oliver above was the son of your Oliver Ledwidge . I found a very good new site which lists parish records called  Irish Genealogy   log into  churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie .

:)    Alas it would not be so , Oliver was born c1835 and married c1859/60, to Mary Daly
they had two children, Mary c1860 & John c1862 then moved to London c1863.
Oliver was an unusual name for the time, so there may be a connection, but for him to be your Olivers father  he would have been very young, and posibly not marrried , unless the mother died before 1859. But then surely he would have gone to London !????
