Hare Street in Bethnal Green/Islington?
« on: Thursday 27 October 11 09:18 BST (UK) »
On 6th November 1856 Charles and Mary Ann Sharman had a child – also named Mary Ann. Her birth was registered in the Bethnal Green district of London, although subsequently her birthplace was always given as Islington. At this time they were living at an address given as 52 Hare Street.

I have been unable to find Hare Street in either Bethnal Green or Islington on Streetmap or similar sites. Does anyone know where it is/was please?

Yes, thanks for those replies. I've got quite a lot on the two Mary Anns (mother and daughter) throughout their lives. Charles Sharman deserted his wife Mary Ann (née March) on or about 15th November 1856, nine days after the baby Mary Ann was born. At the time they were at 52 Hare Street, which I could not find - hence my enquiry.

Charles remarried bigamously on 9th March 1861, but seems to appear as a Private in an army barracks in London in the following month's census. His new wife was Ann Baker and they married in Wiltshire - probably Chippenham (see my post in Rootschat's Wiltshire section). After that I have nothing on either of them.

The whole thing is so intriguing that I'm tempted to "chase" him more than is probably good for my sanity! You can see what I had on Charles and co. on my webpage by clicking on the little globe beneath my family crest to the left of this message. Of course, now his section will have to be rewritten.

Sorry to appear thick, but I can't see Carter Street or St John's Street on a map either.
