Just seen BBC news - UK -Televisión adverts could get longer and more frequent as review of broadcasting rules by Ofcom. :-\ ??? :(

Just fits in with Ofcom- relaxing rules on Energy prices twice a year.

Just remember Boris's only concern is to surpass Maggie Thatcher's rule ! of ?
It is about time Ofcom put a stop to the adverts on the BBC, they now come between almost every program and are almost as long as ITV's commercial adverts.
Cheers

I think the problem is that the BBC are buying in so many programmes from other programme makers who are tailoring them in length to the commercial channels, who want around 45 minutes of actual broadcast material to fit into an hour around the advert breaks and trailers. So the BBC needs to fill the gaps ni order to fit the full hour, hence the trailers, adverts for TV Licence etc. More and more programmes broadcast on the BBC have that irritating recap a couple of times during the programme as if the viewer has forgotton was they watched five minute ago. Even Monty Don on Gardeners World says "Coming up......" half way through the programme and gives short snippets of what is to follow, just in case you forgot what was announced just after the opening titles (also with short snippets of what would be shown later).
Berks / Oxon: Eltham, Annetts, Wiltshire (surname not county), Hawkins, Pembroke, Partridge
Dorset / Hants: Derham, Stride, Purkiss, Sibley
Yorkshire: Pottage, Carr, Blackburn, Depledge
Sussex: Goodyer, Christopher, Trevatt
Lanark: Scott (soldier went to Jersey CI)
Jersey: Fowler, Huelin, Scott

Really annoying, but I always record most programmes and whizz through the ads whether on ITV or BBC.  What has been annoying are the BBC ads for itself during Wimbledon when the players are having the small break before changing ends.  That's nothing to do with buying in programmes ready made, it's just self-serving nonsense.  I agree with Guy Etchells, Ofcom should put a stop to these silly adverts.

I agree ads during Wimbledon can't be explained by filling in between short programmes - don't watch Wimbledon and rarely any other sport, but when I have seen what is a natural break in play, it is usually filled with a commentator giving some sort of post mortem on the previous session's play. The BBC advertising itself seems pointless. The viewer knows the BBC exists, because they are obviously watching the channel.

I thought the breaks between games at Wimbledon was filled with Sue Barker telling us the coverage of this game will continue on a different channel and we'd need to retune (AGAIN!)  ::)

Looking at the TV listings for this week and next, Wimbledon seems to be broadcast all day simultaneously on both BBC1 and BBC2. Why not use BBC3 now that's come back to freeview

And for the gardeners among you, next week's Gardener's World has moved from Friday evening to Thursday evening. It seems to be dedicated to the Hampton Court flower show, which in previous years (apart from 2020 obviously) had three dedicated programmes for this week long garden show, (two and a half to three hours of broadcasting). They could have cut down Chelsea a bit (it seemed to have two extra hours this year) and given us at least an hour more Hampton Court.

It's not the amount of coverage, it's the movement between channels. yesterday, for example, Jack Draper's game changed five times between BBC1, BBC2 and the Red Button.

It is about time the BBC put all sport including Tennis on BBC 3 and left BBC1 & BBC 2 for the normal programs. That was the reason behind expanding the BBC in the first place.
