Thank you for your help, the story as I know it is as follows.
Sarah Freeman married Herbert Cureton in 1869 in Birmingham. They had 2 children and I think that Herbert then died. Sarah Cureton then married Ben Glissan and they had 3 children, one of whom is my "Glissan", Francis, who emigrated to Melbourne and appears to have been married 3 times, lastly to my great aunt. Francis also was a doctor like his father.
Sarah died in 1893 and Ben then married Sarah's sister, Mary Ann, the same month and year. They had a further 4 children together.
I don't know what happened to the other son Edmund Glissan yet, and I am still hoping for a lead on Benjamin Glissan's ancestors from Tipperary Ireland.
I will try and find information on Griffiths list, but any further assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Free BMD have a death listed for a Herbert Cureton march qtr 1877 Wellington
aged 29yrs. Looks like you were correct about his death.
Sarah re-married in the Sept qtr same year to Ben.

That marriage is worth following up - a cert should show details of Ben's father (name & occupation), which could help narrow down the search in Tipperary.

Sopwell is a townland of 1,113 acres in Uskane civil parish, in Tipperary north riding. Civil parishes usually corresponding to Church of Ireland parishes - but I dont see any sign of records for this parish. Maybe it was covered by an adjacent parish or the records have been lost ?

If your Glissan family were RC then the RC parish which covers the area is Borrisokane. Baptism and marriage records for this parish go back to 1821 (NLI Film Pos. 2483)

I dont see any Glissan entries on Griffith's in North Tipperary, but there are numerous Gleesons. I wonder could Glissan be a variation ?
