Thanks Citizen Smith. I hope you have more success than me finding your Romany People. I can't see why gran would have instilled this in me as a kid, unless it was a complete fantasy of hers. Anyway, I'm obviously in the wrong section here, so I'll bid you farewell. X

Hi BeckyJL

I wouldn't give up. There's usually a lot of truth in stories that have come down through the family. So hold on to Gran's information and keep on investigating that line.

Gosh, have not visited this forum for quite a long time! Just to say, I have managed to aquire a few old sepia photos of Grandmother Chilcott and all but one of her brothers and sisters. Photos like these have been almost impossible to get hold of.( Long story! )
She was olive skinned and always kept out of the sun, as I recall, and one brother looks similar. The others are dark skinned and dark haired.
I never met any of my Great uncles and aunts. I still don't know if they actually were Romany or not, but they sure look like Romany people.
I may never find out why my family history was either hidden or destroyed.
Anyway, I feel I can genuinely describe myself as Diddikai.
Not  'part this', or 'half that'. I have survived this far, and I am a Diddikai STAR.
Blessings.

Hi, Becky JL

I realise that it is a long time since you logged in but I would like to make contact as it would appear we are researching the same family.

My grandmother was Eveline Sarah Chilcott, sister of Gladys.

Regards

Dear Marion,
Thankyou for your message. Gran's parents were Fred and Eliza Chilcott, and they lived near Puritan which is near Bridgwater, Somerset. I am certain that one of her sisters was Eveline. She had a sister called Lily, and another called Beatie, a brother Len and brother Jack.
If this connects us then it would be fascinating to hear from you. My email address is-(*)

Sent an email with a family spread sheet attached.

Think that we may be first cousins, once removed!
