Phoenix Brewery

Does anyone know where I might find the archives for the above brewery?  I am looking to trace any references to my ancestor, Margaret Ashworth who held the pub called The Bird'ith Hand, Birtle,in 1871 (Census). Her son-in-law, James Ashworth was also landlord there. His death cert in 1925 states his profession as retired liscensed victualler, 32 Top'oth'Woood, heywood. I have tried to find the pub on other census returns but their names do not show up. I think he may have returned there later in life. 
I have been to the pub (!) to ask about their records but they do not know where the archived records, if they exist, would be.  Even an old photo would be nice!

There was a Phoenix Brewery at Green Lane, Heywood, registered as a limited company in 1874 and taken over by Cornbrook Brewery Co. in 1939.
Cornbrook were at Ellesmere Street, Chester Road, Old Trafford from 1873, registered as a company in 1885 and were taken over by Charrington United Breweries in 1969 [when many giant companies were being set up].
Charrington was a large London company and merged with Bass, Mitchell & Butlers to form Bass Charrington in 1967.
I have no idea where their archives would be now but suggest you try to find a website for the Brewery History Society.

Thanks everyone!  I am getting closer to the records, if they exist! 
The reason her son in law was called Ashworth too was because cousins married - this is proving to be quite a nightmare trying to find the correct family tree branches! There are so many Ashworths!!
