Hi JenB,

I still don't have Isaac in 1871 or 1881 but do have his daughter Ann Legender - RG10/ 5095/ 60 p15
.
Then Ann Legender married Joshua Audas in 1873 and she appears on the 1871 census: RG11/5035/135 p: 19.

Isaac's first wife Elizabeth dies in 1859.  He is with his brother and sister in law in the 1861 census - and daughter Ann.

Thanks again for your help.
Definitely time for bed now! :D

Got him now, many thanks.

It definitely says 'mar'.

Where is son Chapman in 1861 - he seems to have died in 1867?

Isaac is married to a Drucilla aged 60 from Leeds in the 1891 census.

Yes, I see now - Isaac Legender & Drucilla Donnelly, 2nd q. 1886, Gateshead 10a, 1013.

I see Drucilla is calling herself Donnelly in 1901, while poor old Isaac is a 'pauper' in the Gateshead Union Workhouse.

Her death is recorded as Dracilla Legender 3rd q 1907, Gateshead 10a, 601

hi, have just found this thread whilst googling.

i have connections to the legender family through a
Mary legender bap.8/6/1815 sunderland d/o james Alexander legender 1791 & Elizabeth Annison.

she had a brother James Alexander legender 1826 sunderland.
Elizabeth Annison died feb 1821 & JA Legender snr remarried Ann George nov 1821.

the 1841 census shows JA Legender snr as not born in county but think i have Eliz Annison as b. newcastle so he could be from there.

wonder whether these fit into your family above - unusual name and you have some james..

any ideas?

have been on Essex ancestors (SEAX site)  and found the baptism of my James Alexander Legender 24/2/1789 s/o Isaac legender & Mary jacobs inng, essex

also found Marys baptism but not isaacs. Various trees on A* have isaac born France /died france /born essex etc. prob need to have a better hunt on Essex ancestors (sub for day £5)

seems to tie in with your family as Chapman legender 4/12/1792 was James brother.
