Hi Im new to the list but would like some help please if possible. My Ggrandmother has been one of my brickwalls for a while and wonder if anyone has her in their tree ?
Ann Blackley born in 1859 but unknown as to where,
 married Joseph Gearing in 1878 in Eastbourne Sussex. When Joseph died she married Arthur Vine again in Eastbourne.
 Ive tried various combinations of her surname but still cannot find her place of birth .
Any help with this would be wonderful

The 1881 census has her born Eastbourne Sussex

Hi and welcome to Rootschat...The 1881 census gives her birth as 1858 in Eastbourne.

Hi

Do you have the marriage certificate for Ann and Joseph GEARING at all?  

I ask because I can see a marriage for Joseph GEARING in Sussex 13th July 1878 St Anne's Church Lewes Sussex to a Mary BALDEY.

I realise that she appears in the Census as Ann... but might she have Mary Ann?

How have I missed that 1881 errrrrrr
 The other marriage found wasnt them but has links to mine,Joseph seemed a favourite name in the huge family but thank you .
The 1871 census as you say shows her as a servant in Friday Street and that is just around the corner from where we live now.The family havent moved far over the years have they !

I hope you don't mind me asking but why do you think Joseph GEARING married Ann BLACKLEY? I ask because the only Joseph GEARING marriage I can find in Eastbourne in 1878 is,

Joseph GEERING    Jun Q 1878    Eastbourne    2b  145
other names with samr reference:
Richard MOON
Mary GLEESON
Annie REED
