Hi Big Guy
You have two marriages for John, I would buy one of the marriage certs from GRO and then you will know for deffo who his Dad was, occ, address etc.

As I said in my post either have the Lymm register checked for further details and/or get the death certificate of John or Mary and see who registered their deaths.

Thanks for all your help everyone. Have recently ordered one of the birth certificates to see what info it gives. I already know who his father is as it is on his marriage certificate. I am trying to find/prove who his mother is but cannot find his birth/christening to do so. I have only made a guess that the Broadhead family in the 1841 census at High Legh is his as the facts seem to fit. Still open to ideas. Cheers Big Guy

Hi,  re John Broadhead junior, the Fustian Cutter,  you might be interested that he was sentenced to hard labour for assaulting his girl worker.  I have the details if you want to give me your contact details.  I too have been having trouble with this family: my interest is in John's brother Samuel.  Unfortunately John senior and Samuel were away from home on census night in 1851 and I can't be sure of their place of birth.

That sounds promising if you have more info on Sam Broadhead.  Thanks for the offer.  I used to work in Lymm a long time back, but had no idea that there was a family connection 'til I moved away.  John Boradhead the fustian cutter was brought before Trafford Trafford the magistrate who lived at Oughtrington Hall - I taught history in his library, without realising it.  John Broadhead was probably brought into the same room.
