As the children were born in Southampton you could try: The 1836 Fletcher and Sons Street Directory
 < http://www.plimsoll.org/Southampton/streetdirectories/default.asp> Directory from 1811 to 1970.

What is it are you hoping to find out from the trade directory?  Not many gardeners would have been able to afford an entry in a trade directory.

I am not to conversant with trade directories. I had thought John Gray would have been there ! I was hoping to find another address maybe other than the 2 where Catherine was living. Also more rellies .
Would it be of any use to write to Southampton Archives for births of the Woods children ?
Any sugestions gratefully welcomed.

Hi Nell

What I am trying to establish is John Gray's widow was Catherine ???

She had more children to a John Woods after John Gray's Death in 1837

I am trying to find out her maiden name and the births of her children to Woods?
Thank you Jacquie

Link to the other thread about Catherine.

As I said on that that thread, I was not able to find a marriage to John Gray in Hampshire or a further marriage to Woods.  The lady herself was born in Wales.

I have searched the GRO indexes (http://www.freebmd.org.uk/ ) under Woods, Wood, Gray and Grey but could not find anything conclusive, but it may well be worth trying yourself.  The names are not rare  :(

Thanks Nell and everyone who replied to my search for John Gray's wife Catherine.

I guess I just have to buy one of the certs from GRO and hope it is the right Woods!!!

Once again thank you all
Jacquie
